Island
Shipping's tug HUSKY seen at the East pier , she had just
arrived from Arklow after having a refit.
Sections of the
South Quay are to be repaired over the next few months , during
the week a giant crane arrived .

Sunrise at Wicklow
Harbour .The skies over the Wicklow Coast were again clear of
commerical air ftraffic as volcanic ash from the eruption at the
Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland disrupted flights over
European Air Space.

On Thursday Irish
Airspace was closed to all jet aviation traffic after an
volcanic eruption at the
Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland sent a plume of ash into the
atmosphere which drifted towards European Airspace , all
commercial flights were grounded from Midday due to safety
restrictions . 15/04/10

On Saturday we climbed the
Sugarloaf Mountain, it was a nice climb rewarded with a great
view of the East Coast, misty conditions meant the
Welsh Coast was not visible. Traffic sightings included the
STENA SEALYNX III out of Dun Laoghaire for Holyhead , the tanker
CORAL PALMATA was sailing from Dublin heading South , another
tanker the THEODORA was weighing anchor and going into the oil
terminal , ARKLOW FUTURE was also seen departing from Dublin
.Offshore the drill ship FUGRO SYNERGY was visible
along with her Guard ship NOMAD , drilling operations started
earlier this year and the ship was visible off the Wicklow Coast
at night. The coaster FINGAL was heading North along with a
fishing vessel. The Wind farm off Arklow was also visible as was
the new harbour development at Greystones .

Drill
operations off the Wicklow Coast were completed early in the
week , thanks to Pat Davis for the photo's .

Saturday afternoon.

passes the lightship , up to the mid 1970s a lightship was
stationed at the Codling Bank off Wicklow harbour , l remember
seeing it through a telescope from Wicklow head just before it
was replaced by a LANBY.

Essex , thanks to Kieran for alerting me of her departure from
Dun Laoghaire , the

lifeboat is launched after a person's clothes were found on the
North pier.
Rescue 117 from
Waterford arrives to join the search
Both of Wicklow
RNLI lifeboats launched , they were joined by the Coast Guard
helicopters from Waterford and Dublin , onshore Wicklow and
Greystones Coast Guard units conducted a shoreline search from
Kiloughter to a location South of Wicklow head , members of the
local Sub Aqua Club carried out a dive around the North pier ,
the Garda Water unit arrived and they were joined by the Irish
Navel vessel LE ORLA on Sunday afternoon , the Navy deployed a
diver to search the harbour mouth , this was the largest search
operation l have ever seen at Wicklow.
Rescue 116 from Dublin arrives to search along
the Coast.

Despite
a large scale search the person was not found.

GRAINNE arrives at Wicklow for a courtesy visit , she was one of
three former 'Ton' minesweepers aquired from the Royal Navy for
the Navel Service.These ships were regular visitor's to the
harbour for many Wicklow Regatta's in the 1970s.

The North Pier has taken quite a battering
from the sea over the last few months , a section from the end
has lifted .

A Whelk boat returns to land her catch at the
South Quay
The Bridge Tavern bar closed it's doors for
business this week , hopefully the premises will reopen soon and
we will once more be able to enjoy a pint in a pub with a strong
maritime connection as it's the birth place of Captain Halpin.
With snow melting and heavy rain the river was
swollen at high tide on Saturday at lunchtime , part of the
South Quay road was flooded for a short period.

CIARA is a former Royal Navy 'Peacock'
class Patrol vessel , she was one of 2 ships aquired by the
Irish Navy in 1988
During her
time with the Royal Navy as HMS SWALLOW she served in Hong Kong
