Wicklow RNLI
Lifeboats launched on New Years Day for the annual Service of
Remembrance , a floral tribute was launched into the bay after a
short religious ceremony to remember past lifeboat crew and all
associated with the sea from Wicklow.
A newly wed
couple had their wedding Photographs taken on the East Pier during
the week , congradulations to the couple.

The work vessel
SEA ENERGY arrived during the week to prepare for work at the Arklow
windfarm. The impressive vessel moored at the Packet pier over
Christmas , a nice touch was the Christmas tree on the bow.
BRIDGET CARMEL
also spent Christmas in port.

REMSBORG anchored in the bay on Sunday after arriving from Foynes.
Visitors to the
port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL . The Minister for
Transport Leo Varadkar paid a visit to the port on Friday , from all
accounts the visit was positive.
Traffic sightings
included HANNI , WILLENKE , THEA MARIEKE , ARKLOW FORTUNE , BLUE
DRAGON , CIL tender GRANUAILE , and the tug MTS VICTORY towing the
work platform NORDIC GIANT.

vessel CEFAS ENDEAVOUR was noted at anchor in the bay on Saturday
evening.
Irish Sea
The coaster
SWANLAND sank in heavy seas off the Welsh Coast in the early hours
of Sunday morning, 2 crew were winched to safety by a RAF Search and
Rescue helicopter from Valley , an Irish Coast Guard helicopter
recovered a body , 5 crew remain missing. The vessel encountered bad
weather in the area and its believed this is a factor in the
sinking. Sincere condolences to the families of the mariners.

Monday was the new Portpatrick RNLI 'Tamar' Class lifeboat .

There was a lot
of Naval activity along the Wicklow Coast during the week. On
Tuesday 5 vessels were involved in a excercise which included LÉ CIARA , LÉ ORLA of the Irish Naval Service , the
Polish FLAMING , the Estonian TUSLUA and the Norweigan MAALOY. The ships
had visited Dublin over the weekend.

support vessel COMMANDANT FOURCAULT heading South , she looked like
a Naval vessel but was orginally a Pilot cutter.

Wicklow RNLI had
an early morning callout to assist the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL
after she was involved in a collision at sea. Thankfully there were
no injuries.
The research
vessel CELTIC VOYAGER anchored in the bay during the week , the
vessel has been working along the Wicklow Coast over the past few
weeks.
Helicopter
traffic included a French Army 'Super Puma' heading South for
Cork.

Visitors to the
port included the Bristol Bristol Pilot Cutter MARGUERITE , beam
trawler BRIDGET CARMEL , mussel trawlers WINGS of the MORNING ,
EMERALD GRATIA and the launch The BLACK PENNY , she was forced to
divert to the port with engine trouble. The vessel was built on the
Clyde in 1937.

vessel LÉ ORLA anchored in the bay for a few hours on Thursday.
Wicklow RNLI
lifeboat RNLB ANNIE BLAKER was launched to standby an aircraft in
distress , thankfully the plane was able to land safely.

OCEAN COUNTESS , mussel trawler EMERALD GRATIA , ARKLOW RAIDER ,
GERD SIBUM , Molasses tanker ATLANTIC GEMINI and DINTELDIJK . The
most notable sighting was the southbound maxi yacht TEAM SANYA after
a visit to Dublin , she will take part in the Volvo Round the World
Race , this starts at Alicante in November and finish up in Galway
next Summer.

MERWESTONE , PS WAVERLEY and the liners OCEAN PRINCESS , SAGA PEARL
2 , SILVERCLOUD , MARCO POLO and LE DIAMANT.
Celebrity
swimmers including Ronan Keating and Pamela Stevenson landed on the
north beach early on Wednesday morning after a relay swim across the
Irish Sea for a UK Cancer Charity, Support boats escorted the
swimmers across the sea. The swimmers were make landfall at the
Forty foot in Dublin but due to currant’s they had to make
landfall at Wicklow.
Helicopter
traffic included an Agusta 109 and a Coast Guard s61n.

research vessel T BURKE left the harbour this week after wor was
completed.

The CIL tender
GRANUAILE went to anchor off the port on Monday night, she weighed
anchor early next morning and headed north.
Wicklow RNLI
volunteer crews carried out two rescues over the weekend. One Friday
evening the inshore lifeboat assisted a lone sailor after his dinghy
capsized outside the harbour. On Saturday afternoon the all-weather
lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER launched
to rescue 2 sailors after their yacht sustained damage to the mast
and rigging while racing south of Wicklow head. The yacht was towed
safely into Wicklow harbour on Saturday evening.

included RED BARONESS , RED DUCHESS , MAZARINE and the huge
liner SEVEN SEAS VOYAGER.

RNLI crews responded to 2 callouts during the week.

8th – Sunday 14th August 2011
Wicklow
Port
Traffic in the
bay included EEMS SPACE, ARKLOW STAR , ARKLOW ROVER , ELBFEEDER ,
BRO DEVELOPER , NORDFJORD , JEROME H , PENGALIA and MAZARINE. The La
Solitare du Figaro yacht race from France passed through the bay
midweek, the race takes part over 4 legs and had about 40 single
handed sailors, after a few days rest in Dun Laoghaire the sailors
left on Sunday for Les Sables d’Olonne escorted by the French
naval vessel CORMORAN. The German naval tug FGS FEHMARN went south
on Monday after a courtesy visit to Dublin over the weekend, we were
to see her again in the week as she went to anchor on Wednesday.
Visitors to the
port included the former Bristol pilot cutter DOLPHIN. She arrived
on Wednesday evening and moored at the East pier. The vessel built
in 1909 was on passage back to Swansea after a long lay-up in the
Baltic. She sailed early on Friday morning. Another notable visitor
was the Mersey Maritime museum tug 1964 built BROCKLEBANK, the only
British museum to have a sea-going tug in its collection. She tied
up for a short time on Friday afternoon at the East pier ,the vessel
has visited the port before when one of its crew left a fine
painting of her on the pier . She was retired in 1989 and now visits
festivals and ports during the summer. The tug departed for the Isle
of Man just after 2-30pm.
The German Navel
Ocean going tug FGS FEHMARN anchored in the bay this morning. Built
in 1967 the salvage tug is now a safety vessel for submarine
training. Divers from the ship were seen diving near Brides head
from an inflatable rib. She sailed the same evening for a courtesy
visit to Cork.

Coaster visitors
to the port this week included KONSTANTIN PAUSTOVSKIY and SCOT ISLES
The Annual
Wicklow Rowing Regatta took place on the bank holiday Monday, this
year there was a noticeable increase in the number of spectators
lining the pier and Murrough, maybe it’s down to the recession
that most people are staying in the country but it was nice to see
so many watch the races. The Wicklow RNLI lifeboat and Coast Guard
s61 helicopter put on a winch display in between races. At 4pm local
clergy conducted a short ceremony blessing boats in the harbour. A
Film crew were busy recording the races and activity, this will be
screened on TV3 in the future. Rowing Club coxswain ‘Nukey’
Keogh was fitted with a ‘head cam’ to record the Regatta
festival Queen Paula Murphy take part in her race. The all-Ireland
senior race provided much controversy and was resolved after a
steward’s inquiry.
The former French
pilot vessel ROCINANTE now registered at Dundalk called to the port
during the week, l think she might be involved with bird watching
off the Coast. Any details about this vessel welcome.
The sail training
vessel OAKMERE GMC anchored off the harbour on Monday evening, she
sailed early next morning.
Traffic sightings
included SOUL SOUND , ARKLOW SPRAY , ELBTRADER , JORK RANGER ,
ENDURANCE , ARX , VETSERDIJK , CEMENTINA , PEREGRINE and MAZARINE.
Liner traffic included SPIRIT of ADVENTURE southbound out of Dublin
on Monday evening. One notable sighting was the Trimaran yacht
VEOLIA ENVIRONNMENT racing south through the bay at speed after a
visit to Dun Laoghaire , the vessel will be taking part in the
coming Fastnet Race.
Aviation
sightings included an Air Corp ‘CASA’ maritime patrol aircraft
transit north along the coast.

to the port this week included SCOT VENTURE, UPHUSEN and KONSTANTIN
PAUSTOVSKIY.
Traffic sightings
in the bay included RED DUCHESS, RMS VEORDE and PEREGRINE.
The Wicklow
Regatta Festival took place this week, notable events were the Duck
race in the river, the Raft race that went up river to the Parnell
Bridge and the maritime talk given by local historian Jimmy Cleary.
We also want to say get well soon to Andrew O Brien. A Firework
display illuminated the harbour on Sunday night, well done to RNLI
Wicklow for dressing ANNIE BLAKER in lights. Wicklow Sailing Club
played host to various clubs along the coast over the weekend for
the Annual Sailing Regatta.

Port
The Annual
Maritime weekend took place in the port over the weekend in aid of
the RNLI, the Irish Naval vessel LÉ ROISIN made an appearance in
the bay on Sunday.
Greystones
Greystone’s
Rowing Club held its Annual Rowing Regatta on Saturday , Wicklow
RNLI lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER
paid a courtesy visit to Greystones on Sunday in conjunction with
the local fundraising branches collection.

Visitors to the
port included the recently lengthened beam trawler MARY KATE, the
vessel was in port for a survey on Tuesday afternoon, she departed
at teatime heading back to Arklow port. The mussel trawler CECILIA
was noted moored overnight on Sunday at the North pier.
The Russian
destroyer ADMIRAL CHABANENKO anchored off the coast while waiting to
go into Dublin for a courtesy visit over the weekend, the Udaloy II
class was visible from high ground around the town.
Traffic in the
bay included the tanker BRO GENIUS , RED DUCHESS , BLUE STAR ,
INDEPENDENT and SOUL SOUND. Liner traffic included the PRINSENDAM
and AZURA.
The Bray Air show
2011 took place on Sunday , the free event attracted a huge crowd to
the seafront for an afternoons display of helicopters and planes , l
watched it from a great vantage point at Bray head and thanks to the
organisers for a great show . Some of the light aircraft operated
out of the nearby Newcastle airfield.

sighting was the cable layer CABLE INNOVATOR southbound on Monday
morning and the Irish naval patrol vessel LÉ CIARA.

Bray Rowing
Regatta took place on Sunday , local rowers from Wicklow took part

Traffic sightings
in the bay included SOUL SOUND, RED DUCHESS , BG IRELAND , CELANDINE
, PEREGRINE , ARKLOW STAR and ARX. The Dutch tug VIKING was also
sighted outside the Codling buoy heading south with the large crane
SVANEN.
The Tall ships
race left Waterford on Sunday. The route was to take the fleet out
around the west coast to Greenock in Scotland. Instead the ships
sailed up the Irish Sea and would have passed well offshore.
Visitors to the
port included the sail training vessel OAKMERE GMC
Wicklow Maritime
hit 20.000 visitors this week.
The Annual
Wicklow RNLI lifeboat Station Open day took place on Sunny, there
was plenty to see and do, with tours and visits of the stations 2
lifeboats , a display by Wicklow fire and ambulance service and
visits by an Air Corp EC135 and Coast Guard s61 helicopter.

departed south on Saturday morning.

dredger the Irish flagged JENNY T was noted in the port on Saturday
afternoon , along with the beam trawler RONY.

Yarmouth to work on a nearby wind farm project. It was noted that
she has now been registered at Belfast.

dredger SOSPAN DAU was noted in Arklow over the weekend along with
the research vessel KEARY and beam trawler SALTEES TERN.

The sailing ship
STRAVOS S Niarchos stopped in the bay for a short period on Tuesday
morning , before resuming her passage South to Rosslare harbour for
a overnight stop. She departed for Barry the next morning.
Wicklow RNLI
lifeboat launched in the early hours of Saturday morning to assist a
yacht with 2 crew onboard , the vessel contacted the Coast Guard
after she got fouled in rope South of Wicklow head. The lifeboat
crew managed to free the obstruction from the yacht and towed her
safely into Wicklow harbour.Well done to the volunteer crew on a job
well done.
Aviation traffic
included a US military 'Galaxy' transport aircarft , she flew over
the harbour shortly after noon on Tuesday possibly returning to
Dublin Airport to pick up equipment used during the visit of US
President O Bama.
Traffic sightings
included LE AOIFE heading south after providing sercurity cover for
the US President visit , the coaster RED DUCHESS was also noted
heading south on Friday lunchtime.
Wicklow Rowing
Club skiffs are out each weeknight as crews train for the coming
East Coast Regatta's.
Arklow
The CORONEL was
noted at the Arklow Roadstone jetty on Thursday loading her second
cargo for Rotterdam
Waterford
The US Coastguard
sailing ship EAGLE was noted in Waterford during the week , London
is believed to be her next port of call.

local fishing vessels continued all weekend , so far only the
overturned vessel was located , sincre condolences to the
fishermens Families.

'new' addition to the whelk fishing fleet BEARA FISHER arrived
in the harbour recently , during the week she was lifted onto

The first commerical caller to the port
for the New Year was the SCOT ISLES, she arrived on the 3rd from
Varberg. The Maltese registered VALENTIN PIKUL also called with
timber from Riga.
Wicklow RNLI held its Annual Service of
Rembrance on New Years Day , after a short religious ceremony
wreaths and flowers were taken onboard the ANNIE BLAKER and
launched into Wickow bay shortly after Noon. The cremony is held
in honour of desceased lifeboat crew and all associated with the
sea from the area.
Traffic in the bay included the GALWAY
FISHER , SAMSKIP PIONEER , research vessel CORYSTES , ARKLOW
VIKING , DANA GOTHIA , CIL tender GRANUAILE , BG IRELAND ,
INDEPENDENT and the large bulker CATTLEYA.
The CIL tender GRANUAILE anchored in the
bay on Saturday morning , she was noted off Arklow and working
off Courtown during the week.
Aviation traffic noted included an Air
Corp AW139 helicopter winch training with a Navel vessel near
the Codling bouy on friday.

back to this time in 1986 at Wicklow port , the coaster KERRY M
arrived on New Years day to load out stone chippings for London
, other coaster callers included the NASCENCE , ELLY BOJEN and
NORDLANDIA. The schooner MANISSA moved to a berth near the
Scout hall , the owner said his vessel was damaged after a
incident with a departing coaster and he was afraid she would
sink. A Navel Service 'ton' class Minesweeper was also noted at
anchor off the port.
