Wicklow Port

SEA ENERGY and BRIDGET CARMEL in port.

Traffic sightings included the Irish Naval patrol vessel LÉ CIARA northbound for Dublin.

Wicklow RNLI Lifeboats launched on New Years Day for the annual Service of Remembrance , a floral tribute was launched into the bay after a short religious ceremony to remember past lifeboat crew and all associated with the sea from Wicklow.

A newly wed couple had their wedding Photographs taken on the East Pier during the week , congradulations to the couple.

Monday 19th - Sunday 25th December 2011

Wicklow Port

The last coaster caller of the year to the port was KARINA G to load glass cullet.

The work vessel SEA ENERGY arrived during the week to prepare for work at the Arklow windfarm. The impressive vessel moored at the Packet pier over Christmas , a nice touch was the Christmas tree on the bow.

BRIDGET CARMEL also spent Christmas in port.

Arklow 

SEA ENERGY was noed at work at the windfarm off Arklow port on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Monday 12th - Sunday 18th December 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included SCOT MARINER and BOUNDER.

The REMSBORG left the bay on Monday morning heading towards the Welsh Coast.

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Santa arrived on Wicklow RNLI Lifeboat on Saturday afternoon .

Traffic sightings included EMSTAL , PERSEUS J , GRANUAILE , ALBIS BERGEN , and BG ROTTERDAM.

 

Monday 5th - Sunday 4th December 2011

Wicklow Port

The coaster REMSBORG anchored in the bay on Sunday after arriving from Foynes.

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL . The Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar paid a visit to the port on Friday , from all accounts the visit was positive.

Traffic sightings included HANNI , WILLENKE , THEA MARIEKE , ARKLOW FORTUNE , BLUE DRAGON , CIL tender GRANUAILE , and the tug MTS VICTORY towing the work platform NORDIC GIANT.

 

Monday 28th November - Sunday 4th December 2011

Wicklow Port

Visitors to the port included the BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic sightings included CLYDE FISHER , SOUL SOUND , BRO GLOBE , LÉ AOIFE , KEARY , PEREGRINE , mussel trawler WINGS of the MORNING and CIL tender GRANUAILE.

The coaster TORRENT anchored in the bay during the week.

Arklow 

The coaster NATALI was noted alongside the Arklow Roadstone Jetty on Friday morning.
The research vessel KEARY was on blocks on the quay.

 

Monday 21st - Sunday 27th November 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included SCOT ISLES 

Traffic sightings included RED DUCHESS , ARKLOW RAMBLER , STELLA ORION , DANA HOLLANDIA and GRANUAILE.

Arklow

The research vessel CEFAS ENDEAVOUR was noted at anchor in the bay on Saturday evening.

Irish Sea

The coaster SWANLAND sank in heavy seas off the Welsh Coast in the early hours of Sunday morning, 2 crew were winched to safety by a RAF Search and Rescue helicopter from Valley , an Irish Coast Guard helicopter recovered a body , 5 crew remain missing. The vessel encountered bad weather in the area and its believed this is a factor in the sinking. Sincere condolences to the families of the mariners.

 

Monday 14th - Sunday 20th November 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included AJOS G

Traffic sightings included SOUL SOUND , JONSEN , DANA HOLLANDIA and, DINTELDIJK.

The TANYA anchored in the bay on Thursday to shelter , she sailed the next day for Arklow Roadstone jetty to laod for Rotterdam.

Arklow

The light tower has been taken off the lightship in Arklow , any details about the future of the vessel welcome.

 

Monday 7th - Sunday 13th November 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included CARRIER and ARKLOW SAND (In for mechanical repairs)

Visitors to the port included the fishing vessels DILLON OWEN and RACHEL JAY to take on fuel and the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic sightings included G.B CORRADO , BERTHOLD K , BRO GLOBE , DAN HOLLANDIA , KOSSAU  and the supply tug REM FORTUNE. A notable sighting on Monday was the new Portpatrick RNLI 'Tamar' Class lifeboat .

Helicopter sightings included the s61 Coast Guard helicopter.

 

Monday 31sth October - Sunday 6th November 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included SEA HAWK and SARMA -1

Traffic included ARKLOW ROGUE , ARKLOW RAIDER and MAERSK MISUMI .

Visitors to the port included BRIDGET CARMEL.

 

Monday 24th - Sunday 30th October 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included LOMUR , SCOT PIONEER and SEA HAWK

There was a lot of Naval activity along the Wicklow Coast during the week. On Tuesday 5 vessels were involved in a excercise which included LÉ CIARA , LÉ ORLA of the Irish Naval Service , the Polish FLAMING , the Estonian TUSLUA and the Norweigan MAALOY. The ships had visited Dublin over the weekend. 

Traffic sightings included CLYDE FISHER , HENTY PIONEER , ARKLOW RULER , COASTAL SOUND and the SD NEWTON .

Visitors to the port included BRIDGET CARMEL.

Aviation traffic included an Air Corp PC-9 light strike aircraft.

Wicklow RNLI inshore lifeboat launched to assist 2 jet skiers in the bay.

Arklow

LÉ ORLA paid a courtesy visit to the port over the bank holiday weekend.

 

Monday 17th - Sunday 23rd October 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included LOMUR.

The DELFIN anchored in the bay on Saturday afternoon , she had been alongside the Arklow Road Stone jetty earlier but did not load. She left the bay early next morning heading south.

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic sightings included STEERSMAN , CLYDE FISHER , BG ROTTERDAM , ARKLOW SURF and DORIS T. Naval activity included the Dutch DE RUYTER and the US oiler KANAWHA.

Aviation traffic included  Air Corp 'CASA 253' Maritime patrol aircraft and the Coast Guard helicopter EI-MES.

Monday 10th - Sunday 16th October 2011

Wicklow Port

Traffic sightings included PENGALIA , ARX , ELBTRADER , ARKLOW FAME , RED BARONESS , CUMBRIAN FISHER , FINGAL , WEGA , CLYDE FISHER , RMS TWISTENDEN , LINDA MARIJKE , STEERMAN , ARKLOW SPIRIT , ARKLOW STAR , LIAMARE and the small catamaran work vessel SMS OCEAN CAT. A notable sighting was the BURHOU 1 ex LANCRESSE .

CELTIC VOYAGER was working along the Coast during the week.

 

Monday 3rd - Sunday 9th October 2011

Coaster callers included SEA HAWK and SCOT VENTURE

The LÉ ROISIN anchored in the bay during the week , the vessel was on operations in the area.

Traffic sightings included the research vessel CELTIC EXPLORER , Ro/Ro CELANDINE , RED DUCHESS , BLUE NOTE and MAZARINE. A notable sighting was the dive support vessel COMMANDANT FOURCAULT heading South , she looked like a Naval vessel but was orginally a Pilot cutter.

CELTIC VOYAGER was working in the area during the week.

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

 

Monday 26th September - Sunday 2nd October 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included SCOT RANGER

Traffic sightings included the small classic coaster SATURN , SHETLAND TRADER , SOUL SOUND and the mussel trawler CECILIA.

The Irish Naval vessel LÉ ROISIN anchored in the bay during the week.

The research vessel CELTIC VOYAGER was working South of Wicklow head.

 

Monday 19th - Sunday 25th September 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included SCOT ISLES and STADUM

Traffic sightings included LÉ ORLA , small liner HEBRIDEAN PRINCESS  , ARKLOW SAND , BITLAND , ARKLOW FERN , AASLI , RED DUCHESS , the fish carrier GRIP TRANSPORTER , CELTIC VOYAGER , PEREGRINE and ELBTRADER. 

Wicklow RNLI had an early morning callout to assist the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL after she was involved in a collision at sea. Thankfully there were no injuries.

The research vessel CELTIC VOYAGER anchored in the bay during the week , the vessel has been working along the Wicklow Coast over the past few weeks.

Helicopter traffic included a French Army 'Super Puma' heading South for Cork. 

 

Monday 12th - Sunday 18th September 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included ARION

Traffic sightings included JAN V , ARKLOW RAIDER , RED DUCHESS , NATHALIE , MUNGO , SOUL SOUND , CUMBRIAN FISHER , STEERSMAN , CELTIC VOYAGER and BREMER VICTORIA.

Visitors to the port included the Bristol Bristol Pilot Cutter MARGUERITE , beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL , mussel trawlers WINGS of the MORNING , EMERALD GRATIA and the launch The BLACK PENNY , she was forced to divert to the port with engine trouble. The vessel was built on the Clyde in 1937.

The Irish Naval vessel LÉ ORLA anchored in the bay for a few hours on Thursday.

Wicklow RNLI lifeboat RNLB ANNIE BLAKER was launched to standby an aircraft in distress , thankfully the plane was able to land safely.

 

Monday 5th - Sunday 11th September 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included the ANKE ANGELA

Visitor's to the port included the fishing vessel LUDOVIC GROFFRAY , mussel trawler MYTILLUS and the Bristol Pilot Cutter MARGUERITE.

Traffic sightings included the LORE PRAHM , MARTIN  , liners  BOUDICCA and OCEAN COUNTESS , mussel trawler EMERALD GRATIA , ARKLOW RAIDER , GERD SIBUM , Molasses tanker ATLANTIC GEMINI and DINTELDIJK . The most notable sighting was the southbound maxi yacht TEAM SANYA after a visit to Dublin , she will take part in the Volvo Round the World Race , this starts at Alicante in November and finish up in Galway next Summer.

Helicopter traffic included an Air Corp EC-135.

Arklow

The coaster LORE PRAHM was noted sheltering off the port during the week.

Monday 29th August  – Sunday 4th September 2011

Wicklow Port  

Traffic sightings included the research vessel CELTIC VOYAGER , RED DUCHESS , INDEPENDANT , PEREGRINE , TORRENT , VANGUISH , CELTIC CARRIER , DC MERWESTONE , PS WAVERLEY and the liners OCEAN PRINCESS , SAGA PEARL 2 , SILVERCLOUD , MARCO POLO and LE DIAMANT.

Celebrity swimmers including Ronan Keating and Pamela Stevenson landed on the north beach early on Wednesday morning after a relay swim across the Irish Sea for a UK Cancer Charity, Support boats escorted the swimmers across the sea. The swimmers were make landfall at the Forty foot in Dublin but due to currant’s they had to make landfall at Wicklow.

Helicopter traffic included an Agusta 109 and a Coast Guard s61n.

 

Monday 22nd – Sunday 28th August 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included ARKLOW ROCK and SCOT ISLES.

Traffic in the bay included RMS VOERDE , RED BARONESS , CIL tender GRANUAILE , ARKLOW RACER , DANA GOTHIA , CLIPPER ODYSSEY and ARCADIA.

The BIM inshore research vessel T BURKE left the harbour this week after wor was completed.

 

Monday 15th – Sunday 21st August 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included HEINZ G

The CIL tender GRANUAILE went to anchor off the port on Monday night, she weighed anchor early next morning and headed north.

Wicklow RNLI volunteer crews carried out two rescues over the weekend. One Friday evening the inshore lifeboat assisted a lone sailor after his dinghy capsized outside the harbour. On Saturday afternoon the all-weather lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER launched to rescue 2 sailors after their yacht sustained damage to the mast and rigging while racing south of Wicklow head. The yacht was towed safely into Wicklow harbour on Saturday evening.

Traffic sightings included RED BARONESS , RED DUCHESS , MAZARINE and the huge liner SEVEN SEAS VOYAGER.

Wicklow RNLI crews responded to 2 callouts during the week.  

Monday 8th – Sunday 14th August 2011

Wicklow Port

Traffic in the bay included EEMS SPACE, ARKLOW STAR , ARKLOW ROVER , ELBFEEDER , BRO DEVELOPER , NORDFJORD , JEROME H , PENGALIA and MAZARINE. The La Solitare du Figaro yacht race from France passed through the bay midweek, the race takes part over 4 legs and had about 40 single handed sailors, after a few days rest in Dun Laoghaire the sailors left on Sunday for Les Sables d’Olonne escorted by the French naval vessel CORMORAN. The German naval tug FGS FEHMARN went south on Monday after a courtesy visit to Dublin over the weekend, we were to see her again in the week as she went to anchor on Wednesday.

Visitors to the port included the former Bristol pilot cutter DOLPHIN. She arrived on Wednesday evening and moored at the East pier. The vessel built in 1909 was on passage back to Swansea after a long lay-up in the Baltic. She sailed early on Friday morning. Another notable visitor was the Mersey Maritime museum tug 1964 built BROCKLEBANK, the only British museum to have a sea-going tug in its collection. She tied up for a short time on Friday afternoon at the East pier ,the vessel has visited the port before when one of its crew left a fine painting of her on the pier . She was retired in 1989 and now visits festivals and ports during the summer. The tug departed for the Isle of Man just after 2-30pm.

The German Navel Ocean going tug FGS FEHMARN anchored in the bay this morning. Built in 1967 the salvage tug is now a safety vessel for submarine training. Divers from the ship were seen diving near Brides head from an inflatable rib. She sailed the same evening for a courtesy visit to Cork.

Helicopter traffic included an Air Corp EC-135 and an Agusta 109.

Coaster visitors to the port this week included KONSTANTIN PAUSTOVSKIY and SCOT ISLES

The Annual Wicklow Rowing Regatta took place on the bank holiday Monday, this year there was a noticeable increase in the number of spectators lining the pier and Murrough, maybe it’s down to the recession that most people are staying in the country but it was nice to see so many watch the races. The Wicklow RNLI lifeboat and Coast Guard s61 helicopter put on a winch display in between races. At 4pm local clergy conducted a short ceremony blessing boats in the harbour. A Film crew were busy recording the races and activity, this will be screened on TV3 in the future. Rowing Club coxswain ‘Nukey’ Keogh was fitted with a ‘head cam’ to record the Regatta festival Queen Paula Murphy take part in her race. The all-Ireland senior race provided much controversy and was resolved after a steward’s inquiry.

The former French pilot vessel ROCINANTE now registered at Dundalk called to the port during the week, l think she might be involved with bird watching off the Coast. Any details about this vessel welcome.

The sail training vessel OAKMERE GMC anchored off the harbour on Monday evening, she sailed early next morning.

Traffic sightings included SOUL SOUND , ARKLOW SPRAY , ELBTRADER , JORK RANGER , ENDURANCE , ARX , VETSERDIJK , CEMENTINA , PEREGRINE and MAZARINE. Liner traffic included SPIRIT of ADVENTURE southbound out of Dublin on Monday evening. One notable sighting was the Trimaran yacht VEOLIA ENVIRONNMENT racing south through the bay at speed after a visit to Dun Laoghaire , the vessel will be taking part in the coming Fastnet Race.

Aviation sightings included an Air Corp ‘CASA’ maritime patrol aircraft transit north along the coast.

Monday 25th – Sunday 31st July 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster visitors to the port this week included SCOT VENTURE, UPHUSEN and KONSTANTIN PAUSTOVSKIY.

Traffic sightings in the bay included RED DUCHESS, RMS VEORDE and PEREGRINE.

The Wicklow Regatta Festival took place this week, notable events were the Duck race in the river, the Raft race that went up river to the Parnell Bridge and the maritime talk given by local historian Jimmy Cleary. We also want to say get well soon to Andrew O Brien. A Firework display illuminated the harbour on Sunday night, well done to RNLI Wicklow for dressing ANNIE BLAKER in lights. Wicklow Sailing Club played host to various clubs along the coast over the weekend for the Annual Sailing Regatta.

Arklow Port

The Annual Maritime weekend took place in the port over the weekend in aid of the RNLI, the Irish Naval vessel LÉ ROISIN made an appearance in the bay on Sunday.

Greystones

Greystone’s Rowing Club held its Annual Rowing Regatta on Saturday , Wicklow RNLI lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER paid a courtesy visit to Greystones on Sunday in conjunction with the local fundraising branches collection.

Monday 18th – Sunday 24th July 2011

Wicklow Port

Visitors to the port included the recently lengthened beam trawler MARY KATE, the vessel was in port for a survey on Tuesday afternoon, she departed at teatime heading back to Arklow port. The mussel trawler CECILIA was noted moored overnight on Sunday at the North pier.

The Russian destroyer ADMIRAL CHABANENKO anchored off the coast while waiting to go into Dublin for a courtesy visit over the weekend, the Udaloy II class was visible from high ground around the town.

Traffic in the bay included the tanker BRO GENIUS , RED DUCHESS , BLUE STAR , INDEPENDENT and SOUL SOUND. Liner traffic included the PRINSENDAM and AZURA.

The Bray Air show 2011 took place on Sunday , the free event attracted a huge crowd to the seafront for an afternoons display of helicopters and planes , l watched it from a great vantage point at Bray head and thanks to the organisers for a great show . Some of the light aircraft operated out of the nearby Newcastle airfield.

Monday 11th – Sunday 17th July 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster visitors to the port this week included the TINA , BUTES and RMS TWISTEDEN

Traffic sightings in the bay included EMSTAL , POLARIS ACE , ARKLOW SAND , ARKLOW ROCK , ENFORCER , RED BARONESS , PEREGRINE , OPALINE , MAZARINE , ARX . Liner traffic included MARO POLO and SILVER CLOUD. One notable sighting was the cable layer CABLE INNOVATOR southbound on Monday morning and the Irish naval patrol vessel LÉ CIARA.

Visitors to the harbour included the OAKMERE GMC and the catamaran HEJIRA.

The Coast Guard s61 helicopter was noted in the area on training flights during the week.

Bray

Bray Rowing Regatta took place on Sunday , local rowers from Wicklow took part in the races.

Monday 4th – Sunday 10th July 2011

Wicklow Port

Traffic sightings in the bay included SOUL SOUND, RED DUCHESS , BG IRELAND , CELANDINE , PEREGRINE , ARKLOW STAR and ARX. The Dutch tug VIKING was also sighted outside the Codling buoy heading south with the large crane SVANEN.

The Tall ships race left Waterford on Sunday. The route was to take the fleet out around the west coast to Greenock in Scotland. Instead the ships sailed up the Irish Sea and would have passed well offshore.

Visitors to the port included the sail training vessel OAKMERE GMC

Wicklow Maritime hit 20.000 visitors this week.

The Annual Wicklow RNLI lifeboat Station Open day took place on Sunny, there was plenty to see and do, with tours and visits of the stations 2 lifeboats , a display by Wicklow fire and ambulance service and visits by an Air Corp EC135 and Coast Guard s61 helicopter.

Monday 27th June -  Sunday 3rd July 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included the SCOT MARINER

Traffic sightings included the VERITY , ARKLOW RESOLVE , ARKLOW SPIRIT , PETKUM , tug TAKTOW towing a barge and the tall ships LORD NELSON , PELICAN of LONDON and SWAN heading south for the Tall Ships Festival at Waterford.

The Coast Guard helicopter EI-SAR was in the area training on Sunday afternoon.

Monday 13th -  Sunday 19th June 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included the ARKLOW REBEL and SCOT MARINER

Traffic sightings included RED DUCHESS , BRO GENIUS , ARX and AMANDINE

The CIL Tender GRANUAILE anchored in the bay Friday night , she departed early the next morning for Dublin bay.

The mackerel were in the area over the weekend attracting many anglers to the East pier.

Arklow

The dredger SOSPAN DAU completed her project north of the harbour and departed south on Saturday morning.

Another dredger the Irish flagged JENNY T was noted in the port on Saturday afternoon , along with the beam trawler RONY.

Monday 13th -  Sunday 19th June 2011

Coaster callers included the SCOT PIONEER

Traffic in the bay included ARKLOW RULER , DINTELDIJK , EMSTAL , RED DUCHESS and OPALINE.

The Island shipping tug HUSKY left the port on Tuesday , bound for Great Yarmouth to work on a nearby wind farm project. It was noted that she has now been registered at Belfast.

Arklow

The dredger SOSPAN DAU was noted in Arklow over the weekend along with the research vessel KEARY and beam trawler SALTEES TERN.

Monday 30th May - Sunday 5th June 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers included the ULRIKE G

Traffic in the bay included SOUL SOUND , DINTELDIJK , RED BARONESS , RED DUCHESS , JORK RANGER , ARKLOW SAND , BLUE BAY and MAZARINE.

Aviation traffic included the Coast Guard s61 helicopter , Air Corp 172 aircraft and the Garda EC135.

Visitors to the port included various yachts and the classic Nobby LASSIE of CHESTER.

Wicklow lifeboat launched on a crew excercise on Friday night.

Arklow

The trawler LUDOVIC GEOFFRAY was noted in the port on Wednesday.

Monday 23rd - Sunday 29th May 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster traffic to the port included ALEXANDER KUPRIN

The sailing ship STRAVOS S Niarchos stopped in the bay for a short period on Tuesday morning , before resuming her passage South to Rosslare harbour for a overnight stop. She departed for Barry the next morning.

Wicklow RNLI lifeboat launched in the early hours of Saturday morning to assist a yacht with 2 crew onboard , the vessel contacted the Coast Guard after she got fouled in rope South of Wicklow head. The lifeboat crew managed to free the obstruction from the yacht and towed her safely into Wicklow harbour.Well done to the volunteer crew on a job well done.

Aviation traffic included a US military 'Galaxy' transport aircarft , she flew over the harbour shortly after noon on Tuesday possibly returning to Dublin Airport to pick up equipment used during the visit of US President O Bama.

Traffic sightings included LE AOIFE heading south after providing sercurity cover for the US President visit , the coaster RED DUCHESS was also noted heading south on Friday lunchtime.

Wicklow Rowing Club skiffs are out each weeknight as crews train for the coming East Coast Regatta's.

Arklow

The CORONEL was noted at the Arklow Roadstone jetty on Thursday loading her second cargo for Rotterdam

Waterford

The US Coastguard sailing ship EAGLE was noted in Waterford during the week , London is believed to be her next port of call.

Coaster traffic to the port included first time callers SUURHUSEN and IDA

The BIM inshore survey vessel T BURKE is still operating out of the port.

Traffic sightings included the liner MARCO POLO , containerships ELBTRADER , EMSTAL and SOUL SOUND , coasters RED DUCHESS , ARKLOW SKY , ARKLOW ROVER and FEHN SIRIUS. The Ro/Ro ship PALENTINE was also noted in the bay.

Monday 9th - Sunday 15th May 2011

Wicklow Port

Coaster callers to the port included SCOT ISLES and first time callers KARINA G and IDA.

Wicklow lifeboat RNLB ANNIE BLAKER launched on friday morning to assist a local fishing vessel with engine trouble near Wicklow head , the fishing vessel with 3 crew was towed to safety.

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic in the bay included the research vessel CELTIC VOYAGER , containerships ELBTRADER .EMSTAL , SOUL SOUND , tanker CUMBRIAN FISHER , car carrier EMBEN ,Ro/Ro vessel MAZERINE and the coaster RED DUCHESS. There was also various Irish fishing vessels heading South during the week.

The research vessel CELTIC VOYAGER was working off the port during the week .

Mussel trawler sightings in the bay included MITILUS ,BRANDING ,EMERALD GRATIA and GLENVALE.

Helicopter sighting included a Hughes OH-6A Cayuse heading South out of Newcastle.

Arklow

The Irish navel LE EITHNE was noted at Sir John Rogerson's Quay on Thursday morning.

Visitors to the port included T BURKE and the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic in the bay included the Ro/Ro ships PALENTINE and OPALINE ,small liner OCEAN NOVA and the coaster RED DUCHESS .

Wicklow RNLI lifeboats launched on Friday evening for excercise in the bay.

Arklow

Vessels noted in the port included the RNLI Tamar Class lifeboat RNLB KILLARNEY , the Belgian beam trawler VAN EKYT and the Arklow operated trawler MARY KATE being refitted after being lenghtened at Howth.

 

Monday 25th April - Sunday 1st May 2011

Wicklow Port

Vistors to the port this week included the BIM inshore research vessel T BURKE and the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic in the bay included the bulker NEFRYT inbound for Dublin with cococa beans , CIL tender GRANUAILE , the Navel service patrol vessel LÉ AISLING , containerships SOUL SOUND and JORK ROVER , mussel trawler CECILIA , tanker BRO GLOBE , research vessel CELTIC VOYAGER and coaster ARKLOW ROVER.

Aviation traffic included the Coast Guard SAR helicopter.

The Horseshoe bouy navigation was lifted out of the water by the CIL tender GRANUAILE during the week and repositioned further out to sea.

2 vessels CELTIC VOYAGER and T BURKE were at work surveying along the Wicklow Coast during the week.

 

Monday 18th - Sunday 24th April 2011

Wicklow Port

Visitor's to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL and the BIM inshore research vessel T BURKE  , she was working along the Coast during the week.

Island Shipping's tug HUSKY arrived back from Arklow during the week.

Aviation traffic included a twin engined navaid calibration aircraft and the Coast Guard SAR helicopter.

Traffic sightings included the bulker NEFRYT , containership JORK ROVER and GRANUAILE .

The Horseshoe bouy located South of Wicklow Head was lifted and repositioned by the GRANUAILE on Thursday morning.

10 East Coast Rowers had to call off a sponsored row from Wales over the weekend due to bad weather , the row is expected to be postponed for a week. Money raised is in aid of the Wicklow Hospice.

Saturday was 'lift in' day for Wicklow Sailing Club yachts.

Coaster callers included FOKKO UKENA

Traffic in the bay included the containership SOUL SOUND , FINGAL , the beam trawler MARY KATE , small liner SEA SPIRIT and the ARKLOW RALLY.

Wicklow Rowing Club comenced training over the Bank holiday weekend for this years East Coast Regatta's.

Arklow

The beam trawler MARY KATE arrived back in the port after being lenthened in Howth , the vessel will be fitted out in the coming weeks.

Coaster callers included SCOT ISLES and AB BILBAO.

Traffic in the bay included RED DUCHESS , MILTIADIS JUNIOR III , EMSTAL and DANA GOTHIA.

The CIL tender GRANUAILE and the Irish Navel vesessel LÉ ROISIN anchored in the bay overnight during the week.

Island shippings Meercat utility vessel ISLAND PARTNER was lifted out of the water during the week and taken away by road transport.

Coaster callers included MONIKA.

Traffic in the bay included SOUL SOUND , FINGAL , RED BARONESS , RED DUCHESS, FINGAL , DANA GOTHIA , VERSPERTINE , YASMINE , CEMSKY and the CIL tender GRANUAILE.

Aviation traffic included an Air Corp 'CASA' maritime patrol aircarft transit south through the bay.

Arklow

The RED BARONESS arrived off the harbour on Thursday afternoon and went to anchor, she docked on Friday morning to unload round timber from Scotland.This is the first commerical vessel in Arklow in about 5 years.

Coaster callers included SCOT RANGER

Traffic included BEN VARREY , LÉ CIARA , GRANUAILE 

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL and a Customs RIB .

Aviation traffic included 'Rescue 117' Northbound from Waterford to join the huge search for 2 missing fishermen from Skerries , the alarm was raised on Friday when they failed to return , a huge seach involving Coast Guard helicopters , RNLI Lifeboats , Air Corp AW139 helicopter a 'CASA' Maritime Patrol aircraft and local fishing vessels continued all weekend , so far only the overturned vessel was located , sincre condolences to the fishermens Families.

Wicklow RNLI Lifeboats launched on crew excercises in the bay on Wednesday night.

A 'new' addition to the whelk fishing fleet BEARA FISHER arrived in the harbour recently , during the week she was lifted onto the Quay to be painted.

Archives - Looking back to this time in 1986 at Wicklow port , coaster callers included AROSITA ,LANCASTERBROOK , NORDQUEEN and NORDWEST. Traffic in the bay included the CIL tender ATLANTA and the supply tug SMIT LLYORD 25 bringing supplies to a exploration oil rig off the Arklow Coast. The coaster LINHAV possibly bound for Arklow was noted at anchor during the week.

Traffic in the bay included ARKLOW FAITH , GRANUAILE , EMSAL , SOUL SOUND , PAULINE and PEREGRINE.

The CIL tender GRANUAILE was working on buoys near the 'Codling ' on Wednesday evening.

Helicopter traffic included an Air Corp AW139 and a Coast Guard s61n .

Greystones

The GRANUAILE was noted at anchor off the harbour on Sunday.

 

Monday 14th – Sunday 20th March 2011

Coaster callers included the AB BILBAO

ISLAND PARTNER and HUSKY arrived back from Arklow after completing a project at the Arklow wind farm.

Traffic sightings included the containership PETKUM , PERSEUS J , TORRENT , DANA GOTHIA , JESSICA B , AUTEIL , ARKLOW VENTURE and the tug SEA TROGAN towing the lightship ALBATROSS south on Saturday afternoon.

Wicklow RNLI lifeboats were launched on Sunday lunchtime to rescue a kayaker in difficulties South of Wicklow head .

Howth

The Arklow trawler MARY KATE is currently on the slip in the fishing port having a new section fitted to lenghten her.

Traffic sightings in the bay included the mussel trawler CECILIA , containerships COASTAL SOUND , EMSTAL , ELBTRADER , ELBFEEDER , SARA BORCHARD , PETRUM , tankers CHEM STAR , PEMBROKE FISHER , SIGHEM HONK KONG , Ro/Ro vessels MAZARINE , PEREGRINE and the coaster FINGAL.

The research vessel CORYSTES was working offshore on Sunday.

Traffic sightings included DRAIT , TORRENT , CHARTSMAN and RED DUCHESS.

Arklow

The BALTYSKIY109 called to the Arklow Roadstone jetty to load out stone for Amsterdam, this is the first cargo since 2008 from the jetty , lets hope it’s the start of a busy period for the Company.

Vessels noted in the port included the research vessel KEARY having a overhaul and the trawler LUDOVIC GEOFFRAY.

Monday 21st – Sunday 27th February 2011

Island shipping tug HUSKY took the Met Eireann wave bouy back to its station in the Irish sea during the week , after it was repaired.

Visitors to the port during the week included Mojo Marine work vessel PORTREE II , she was a former Cal Mac ferry in Scotland.

Traffic sightings included ARKLOW RAMBER , PALENTINE , ENDURANCE and MARUS.

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic in the bay included CLIPPER IYO , CEPHEUS J , GAS LEGACY , GERD SIBUM and SOUL SOUND .

Aviation sightings included an Air Corp ‘Casa’ maritime patrol aircraft.

The Welsh hills were visible during the week.

Coaster callers included IVY and the Chinese built CROWN MARY

Traffic included MARUS , SOUL SOUND and the tug MTS VISCOUNT

(ex MULTRTUG 7 ) towing the workbarge EXCALIBUR.

Irish lights tender GRANUAILE anchored in the bay during the week while working in the area.

Island shippings HUSKY and ISLAND PARTNER are working on a project at the wind farm off Arklow.

Coaster callers to the port this week included ARKLOW STAR and IVY.

Traffic in the bay included RED DUCHESS , GRANUAILE , ELUSIVE , SCOT CARRIER , AASLI , FINGAL and the Ro/Ro Ferry LIVERPOOL SEAWAYS.

The coaster INDEPENDANT anchored in the bay on Sunday to shelter as strong gales lashed the coast. On Friday night the tanker CUMBRIAN FISHER was noted at anchor near Bray.

Monday 24th - Sunday 30th January 2011

Coaster callers to the port this week included the SAMANYOLU , SCOT ISLES , SCOT EXPLORER and ARKLOW STAR

Traffic sightings in the bay included GRANUAILE , MARUS , ARKLOW RAINBOW , RED DUCHESS , CUMBRIAN FISHER and the tug MTS VALIANT towing the jack up rig PAULINE back to Dublin after working on the Arklow Wind Farm.

The research vessel CELTIC VOYAGER was noted in the bay working on Sunday morning , it looked like she was taking water samples.

Monday 17th - Sunday 23rd January 2011

Island shippings HUSKY and ISLAND PARTNER left the port during the week for Arklow.

Visitors to the port included the beam trawler BRIDGET CARMEL.

Traffic sightings in the bay included the tug MTS VALIANT towing the jackup rig PAULINE south to the Arklow windfarm , the cil tender GRANUAILE , ELBFEEDER  , CEMENTINA and SOUL SOUND.

Arklow

Vessels noted in the port during the week included the tugs HUSKY and MTS VALIANT.

The jackup rig is currently working on turbines at the Arklow bank windfarm.

Coaster callers included VALENTIN PIKUL and the SCOT ISLES , she returned to load out glass cullet for Holland.

The beam trawlers JOHNNY K and BRIDGET CARMEL visited the port during the weekend.

Traffic sightings included the coasters JAN V and FINGAL.

Wicklow lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER launched on Sunday for a winch excerise with the Dublin based Coast Guard s61n helicopter in the bay.

Archives 1986 - Coaster callers noted included VIBRENCE again loading stone for London. The Irish Navel Service minesweeper LÉ FOLA was noted Southbound.

Saturday 1st - Sunday 9th January 2011

Wicklow Port 

The first commerical caller to the port for the New Year was the SCOT ISLES, she arrived on the 3rd from Varberg. The Maltese registered VALENTIN PIKUL also called with timber from Riga.   

Wicklow RNLI held its Annual Service of Rembrance on New Years Day , after a short religious ceremony wreaths and flowers were taken onboard the ANNIE BLAKER and launched into Wickow bay shortly after Noon. The cremony is held in honour of desceased lifeboat crew and all associated with the sea from the area.

Traffic in the bay included the GALWAY FISHER , SAMSKIP PIONEER , research vessel CORYSTES , ARKLOW VIKING , DANA GOTHIA , CIL tender GRANUAILE , BG IRELAND , INDEPENDENT and the large bulker CATTLEYA.

The CIL tender GRANUAILE anchored in the bay on Saturday morning , she was noted off Arklow and working off Courtown during the week.

Aviation traffic noted included an Air Corp AW139 helicopter winch training with a Navel vessel near the Codling bouy on friday.

Archives - Looking back to this time in 1986 at Wicklow port , the coaster KERRY M arrived on New Years day to load out stone chippings for London , other coaster callers included the NASCENCE , ELLY BOJEN and NORDLANDIA.  The schooner MANISSA moved to a berth near the Scout hall , the owner said his vessel was damaged after a incident with a departing coaster and he was afraid she would sink. A Navel Service 'ton' class Minesweeper was also noted at anchor off the port.
