The Irish motor yacht MOLLY BÁN passes Wicklow head on Monday morning. The 19metre vessel was built in Denmark and launched in 2008. She seemed to glide gracefully on the water.

Nepture Lines NEPTUNE DYNAMIS sails from Rosslare on Saturday afternoon after delivering a consignment of motor vehicles.The vessel built in 2002 maintains a scheduled weekly service linking Santander in Spain , Le Harve, Southampton and Rosslare.

CEMVALE passing Wicklow head on Friday afternoon. The converted cement carrier was out of Dublin for Plymouth. She was the ex ARKLOW VALLEY up to 2006.

Portpatrick's Tamar class lifeboat RNLB JOHN BUCHANAN BARR (16-21) heads north past Wicklow on Thursday morning, after a overnight stop in Arklow. The lifeboat is returning to Scotland after a refit in Poole. She altered course for Douglas Isle of Man just after l got the photo. The first of two lifeboat sightings of the day.

The former St David's Watson 47' class lifeboat RNLB JOSEPH SOAR (Civil Service No. 34) arriving at Wicklow port on Thursday afternoon.

JOSEPH SOAR is a Watson Class Motor Lifeboat of timber construction with twin Gardner diesel engines model 5LW. She was built by J Samuel White of Cowes, Isle of Wight in 1962 and placed on service at St Davids in 1963; in 1985 she was transferred to Dunbar and in 1988 transferred to Shoreham Harbour.She was withdrawn from service in 1990 and sold out of service in 1992. Throughout her life with the RNLI JOSEPH SOAR was launched 135 times and saved 135 lives.

The ex lifeboat resumes her passage south to Wexford for the Maritme festival, taking place over the weekend. The former Wicklow lifeboat JW ARCHER left Wicklow 24hours earlier for the same festival.

Wicklow RNLI Inshore lifeboat RNLB DENNIS - AUDREY launches on Saturday afternoon on servive to a wind surfer off the Silver Strand beach.The lifeboat with three crew was alongside the casualty seven minutes after launching. A local angling boat had also stood by the surfer until the lifeboat arrived. The person was taken onto the lifeboat and assessed. He did not require any medical assistance and was landed safely back on the Silver strand a short time later.

The former Wicklow RNLI lifeboat JW ARCHER arriving at her 'homeport' on Thursday afternoon. The 42' Watson was stationed at Wicklow from 1956 - 1987. Her arrival home evokes many happy memories.

We had two arrivals at Wicklow port on Sunday evening , the first was the unexpected visit of the Danish work vessel WIND. She moored outside the North pier after 7pm for a couple of hours to carry out some repairs. She lifted out of the water so an obstruction could be cut away from one of the propellors. The job was completed and she resumed her passage from the UK to Ijmuiden in Holland after 9-30pm. The vessel was based in Wicklow for a couple of weeks recently while replacing gearboxes on wind turbines off the Arklow coast.

STEAM TRAIN at Wicklow

Steam Dreams 'Emerald Isle Explorer' approaching Wicklow on Thursday. The train hauled by locomotive '461' was a private charter for a group that will travel around the country in luxury. The train went to Rosslare , where the GM diesel 075 took over returned to Dublin with the train. The steam engine remainded overnight and returned light engine the following day.

She is one of two vessels operated by Customs, that patrol our waters to prevent various kinds of illegal activity including drug importation.

Wicklow all weather lifeboat was called out this afternoon out to the French yacht Kei Ki Wei in difficulties four miles east of Wicklow harbour.Weather conditions in the area were wind westerly force five , with slight sea and good visibility. A Customs vessel in the area also stood by the yacht until the lifeboat arrived. The containership CARLA had also altered course to assist.
Second Coxswain Ciaran Doyle brought the lifeboat alongside the casualty to transfer crew member Terry Sillery onto the yacht to assist the sailors , who had encountered mechanical problems with the engine and were unable to motor into the harbour. A towline was quickly established and the French yacht was taken back to Wicklow harbour.

The port received funding for improvements earlier in the year, work is expected to begin on improvements at the East pier over the summer months..

GM 071 class locomotive 075 heads south for Wexford on Wednesday morning for Wexford. A steam train is expected to depart from Dublin Connolly Station for Rosslare tomorrow.The diesel locomotive will tow the train back tomorrow evening and the steam locomotive will return to Dublin light engine.

Wicklow RNLI lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER rushes out to sea on Wednesday afternoon to assist a fishing vessel in difficulties off the Wicklow coast.

The fishermen managed to cut the rope fouling the trawler's propellor and they were able to steam home under thier own power. So Wicklow lifeboat was released and returned to Station, were she was refuelled and made ready for service.

The Tyne class lifeboat has been on station at Wicklow since 1989 and is the last remaining slipway launched lifeboat in the country today.

The 190metre Hong Kong registered vessel TIN JIAN passing Wicklow port at lunchtime with a consignment of wind turbines destined for Dublin port. According to the RTE lunchtime TV weather bulletin, scattered showers will merge later to give prolonged showers - hard to believe its June!

The ketch MAYBE was one of two sailing vessels to arrive this afternoon from the Dublin Riverfest. l thought this was her first visit to Wicklow port , but she tied up overnight recently arriving late and sailing early.

The sailing ship PELICAN OF LONDON also weighed anchor an hour earlier and departed under sail heading . The work vessel FASTNET SOUND also passed through the bay heading north for Warrenpoint this morning.

We had another arrival this evening as BRIAN BORU moored at the East pier, she too was bound for the Dublin Riverfest. Like PELICAN of LONDON she was also converted from a fishing vessel to sail.

THEA MERIEKE passing sister vessel CROWN MARY on Sunday evening. Both Dutch ships are operated by W & R Shipping and are registered at Rotterdam. THEA MARIEKE was arriving from Sheerness with a part cargo of packaged timber. CROWN MARY had discharged timber as well and moved to the lay by berth on Friday evening to carry out essential repairs.


ILV GRANUAILE was noted in the bay on Saturday morning working on the outfall buoy off Wicklow harbour.

Scenic Carlingford Ferry departure from Wicklow port
It’s not often we get a ferry departure from Wicklow harbour. But on friday morning with near cloudless sky, the FOYLE VENTURE slipped her moorings at the East pier and departed for Greenore in Carlingford Lough after an overnight stop. I also got the opportunity to speak to maritime journalist Jehan Ashmore who was covering the departure for a future afloat.ie article. 
The ferry only recently completed relief duties on the Ballyhack – Passage East route, while the regular ferry went to a yard in New Ross for annual maintenance. FOYLE VENTURE spent the past fortnight at the New Ross boatyard, where she received her new livery and the name (FRAZER) AISLING GRABRIELLE. The name change will possibly come into effect once the ferry begins the new service in June linking Greenore with Greencastle. The ferry will be operated by a company called Scenic Carlingford Ferry. More details here  We wish the operators every success with the new service.

JEVENAU departing late on Thursday afternoon in the rain, after loading a cargo of scrap. Marinetraffic.com was showing Newport as her destination. This is the second cargo to go to the Bristol Channel in the past few weeks.Two other vessels MV CROWN MARY and the ferry FOYLE VENTURE are approaching from the south.

There was good visibility from my front gate tonight as the STENA ADVENTURER departs for Holyhead. In the centre Lambay Island is seen , on the extreme right are the Mourne mountains.

Wicklow inshore lifeboat launched at Lunchtime on Wednesday , to assist in a multi-agency operation involving the Coast Guard , Gardai and Wicklow Ambulance Service. During the operation an injured person was taken by stretcher, from the strand at Wicklow harbour and has been transferred to hospital for further treatment. We wish the man a speedy recovery. This was also the first callout for the new RNLI lifeboat.

Wicklow Sailing Club received the Mitsubishi Motors Sailing Club of the Year 2017, during an award presentation at the Club this evening. The award highlights the club's continued success with the bi-annual Round Ireland Yacht Race. Congratulations to all involved and long may the race continue at Wicklow.

Wicklow's new RNLI inshore lifeboat DENNIS - AUDREY was offically named during a ceremony at the station on Saturday afternoon. Phylis Whyte, former chair of the Wicklow RNLI fundraising branch had the honour of officially naming the lifeboat during the ceremony
The boat went on station at the end of February and replaced the RNLB SHERINGHAM SHANTYMEN. While was on station since 2007.

ARKLOW FORTUNE arrived at her home port of Arklow on Wednesday afternoon from Swansea. It was reported the ship was in her homeport to have work carried out on hatches. She is the first arrival in a few years at the once busy port.
